Types of Concrete To Seal
Different concrete finishes often need different sealing options:
PLAIN CONCRETE: Sealing options range from penetrating sealers to hybrid sealers (both penetrating and film forming) and in some cases clear or coloured top coats.
EXPOSED AGGREGATE: Most common application is a clear film however same-day hybrid sealers are popular as they can be applied more quickly. Natural finish sealers are applied where the wet look is not wanted.
PATTERN PAVE: The most commonly applied option is the clear or coloured film forming concrete sealer.
SPRAY-ON-PAVING: Again, clear film sealers are widely used to help protect the substrate and bring out the colours. Occasionally a colour concrete sealer may be applied to hide fading and simply as a visual change.

Concrete Sealer Choices
Different concrete finishes and your personal preferences all come into play when choosing the best concrete sealer for your project. Your Jetclean technician will guide you through the complex choices and select the best solution.
+ NATURAL FINISH SEALERS
Also called penetrating sealers these types of products are designed to soak into the concrete where they form a chemical, protective barrier. When the sealer dries it is invisible, yet it helps to keep out harmful contaminants and liquids that cause permanent staining or damage. They also assist in slowing the growth of algae and mould. Different quality grades are available. The products are often preferred in areas where slip risks may exist. Lower cost natural finish sealers are water repellant yet effective. More expensive solutions can help repel grease and oils.
+ FILM FORMING SEALERS
Much like a varnish on floor boards these types of sealers are designed to offer you a clear finish. Various sheen levels ranging from matt to high gloss are available. Water based options and solvent based options can be considered as part of the sealer choice. Solvent based sealers result in a darkening of the colours and are also referred to as wet look sealers. They are mostly applied to exposed aggregate and pattern pave concrete.
+ SAME DAY SEALERS
Again these sealers come in solvent and water based options. The solvent based one is often used by concreters at the time of installation. The water based version is a game changer that allows us to treat previously unsealed concrete or pavers immediately after cleaning. Offering same day sealing and next day protection makes same day sealing projects easy for our customers as they can start using the areas again quickly.
+ COLOUR SEALERS
Concrete colour sealers offer all the advantages that concrete paint does not. More penetrating, great coverage, long lasting and low risk of peeling. A great way to give your concrete the colour you really want. These products can be used to rejuvenate stained and tired looking concrete, bring back the colour your concrete once had or simply to create a whole new colour finish.
The Benefits of Professionally Sealing Your Concrete
We are often asked whether to seal concrete. In short, prevention is better than the cure. Yes, sealing concrete is optional and does not offer a 100% guarantee against staining but it does greatly lower the risk of permanent damage. If you want your pavers or concrete to look good for longer and become easier to maintain then sealing is the way forward.

If you leave your concrete surfaces unsealed they may stain, the dyes will fade and, in areas of shade, mould may take hold and cause damage.
